Agricultural Technology students using computer lab.
The Agricultural Technology Program recently received funding from the Virginia Tech Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (CEUT) and Academic Assessment Program. These funds will be used to offer summer stipends to academic year faculty and allow the group to travel to Vancouver, Canada to participate in the NACTA conference to explore better ways to make connections across the curriculum.
The faculty will form a study group with Pat Sobrero, professor of agricultural and extension education and Tom Broyles, assistant professor of agricultural and extension education to determine key outcomes expected of students completing specific courses and the curriculum. They will also explore innovative assessment techniques for determining when those outcomes have been achieved. This will go well beyond traditional pencil and paper testing techniques. The project is well-suited for the Agricultural Technology Program given its focus on hands-on and applied learning strategies.
The faculty who will participate include Sam Doak, Rachel Hensley, Tom Martin, and Stephanie White. The group hopes that this will be the first of many projects of this type and looks forward to welcoming the program's 20th class of students this fall.
